No one we spoke with at North-South Lake had ever heard of Huckleberry Point or Poet’s Ledge (two mountains that my friend and I had looked up before our trip), so we hiked another mountain that they recommended: Hunter. It was awesome. Once we got back home and had internet access, we learned that it is the second-highest mountain in the Catskills. Not bad!
Hunter Mountain info:
Distance: 5.40 miles
Elevation: 4,040 feet
Elevation Gain: 2,219 feet
First view of the surrounding mountains!
It’s hard to tell, but the paths are really steep and uneven
At the top! This is the trail to the firetower.
I seriously love that wildflowers grow everywhere in the Catskills.

A mountain biker would be bad ass in some of these photos…i wanna go!
That would have definitely been cool. We didn’t see a single person on the trail until we reached the top, though! We should get a group together and go next summer!
